European and American Roulette - What are the Differences?
The European and American game is pretty much the same besides the use of the French terms in Europe, and of course the American terms in the U.S. casinos. However, there are two significant differences.
1. In addition to the 36 numbers on the roulette wheel, the American game has a 0 and 00, while the European game has but one O.
2. The European game offers en prison and partage, rules greatly beneficial to the player. En prison and partage is not offered in American casinos, with the exception of Atlantic City where surrender (partage) is used.
The end result is that the casino edge in the European game is but 1.35% as opposed to American roulette where the player has to overcome a hefty 5.26% house edge (or 2.63% on even-money bets in Atlantic City).
