Roulette Etiquette - Sponsored by Golden Reef Casino
The most important aspect of roulette etiquette is knowing when to place your bets and when to wait. Between spins, the dealer gives all the players a minute or so to place th their bets on the table. Then the dealer will pick up the ball and start it spinning. While the ball is spinning fast, players can continue to place bets. But when the ball slows down, the dealer will wave his hand over the layout and say "NO MORE BETS". This means all players must stop making bets.
After a few seconds, when the ball has stopped in a slot, the dealer marks the number of that slot on the layout with a marker. He will then remove all loosing bets before he begins to pay any winnings. Players are not allowed to touch their winning bets until the dealer has finished paying each player and has removed the marker.
The other points of etiquette is simply a matter of common sense. Sometimes things can get confusing. Be careful not to move chips placed by other players.
Also, do not lean on the table around the roulette wheel, especially while the ball is still in motion, you may be a little too close for comfort. You should not throw the chips onto the roulette table, if you cannot reach, ask others closer to the table to put the chips for you.
Finally be polite, if you feel there has been a mistake do not yell, simply suggest that there may have been an error.
So, a word to the wise: Be careful and polite around the roulette layout.
Roulette Etiquette - Tipping
Roulette dealers can earn an hourly wage, usually close to $8, with tips making up a significant portion of their income. Majority of players prefer to tip after big wins or before leaving the table, if the dealer has been helpful. It is proper etiquette to always tip big when winning a straight-up bet. Due to the fact that a roulette is not as popular as blackjack, there may be times when the dealer stands his entire shift at an empty table. If you win big, give a dealer a good tip.
